“He Has Been Raised to Life!”
1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome purchased some fragrant spices and oils so that they could go and anoint Jesus’ body.
2 Very early on the first day of the week, they went to the tomb, just after sunrise.
3 They were asking each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance into the tomb for us?”
4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had already been rolled away. (It was a very large stone, you see.)
5 As the women entered the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were extremely frightened.
6 “Don’t be frightened,” he said to them. “Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified, is the one ᵖyou’re looking for. He has been raised to life! He isn’t here. Look, here is the place where they laid his body.
7 Now go and tell his disciples, especially Peter, ‘He is going ahead of ᵖyou to Galilee. That’s where ᵖyou’ll see him, just as he told you.’ ”
8 So the women went out and fled from the tomb, overcome as they were with trembling and awe. And they didn’t say anything to anyone, because they were afraid.
“Go throughout the Entire World and Proclaim the Gospel to All Mankind”
9 [After Jesus rose to life early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.
10 She went and told his companions as they were mourning and weeping.
11 They, however, when they heard that Jesus was alive and had been seen by her, refused to believe it.
12 After these things, it was to two of his followers, as they were walking, that he appeared in a different form, as they were making their way into the countryside.
13 They, then, went back and told the rest, yet not even those two did they believe.
14 Finally, it was to the Eleven themselves, as they were reclining at the meal table, that Jesus appeared. He rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had refused to believe those who had seen him after he had been raised to life.
15 He said to them, “Go throughout the entire world and proclaim the gospel to all mankind.
16 If someone believes and is baptized, he will be saved. If a person refuses to believe, however, he will be condemned.
17 These signs, moreover, will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
18 with their hands they will pick up snakes; and if they should drink any deadly poison, it will surely not harm them; on the sick they will place their hands, and they will get well.”
19 Although the Lord Jesus, therefore, after he had spoken with them, was himself taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God,
20 the disciples, for their part, went out and proclaimed the gospel everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming, by means of the accompanying signs, the truth of the message.]+
